India’s leading research institute, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), identified the need to modernize its laptop rental process—previously managed manually by staff without any formal tracking or security system.

To address this, Fonzel delivered a secure, automated solution by designing and installing 50 premium metal Smart Lockers equipped with Fonzel Smart Locks and advanced Face Recognition technology. Each locker includes an integrated charging socket, enabling laptops to be charged while securely stored.

The implementation transformed IISc’s traditional rental system into a fully digital process. With dynamic usage, students can now rent laptops securely and independently, without relying on facility staff. The smart locker system records user access and generates detailed usage reports that can be converted into rental summaries—making billing accurate and effortless.

As a fallback, users can also access the lockers via a secure MPIN, ensuring continuous usability and flexibility. The project has proven to be a gamechanger on campus, combining convenience, security, and smart asset management into a seamless experience.
